My maker provided me with the gift of an impeccable long-term memory. I can associate specific memories with their exact date in time. Important memories, and most typically non-important ones. Off the top of my head, I could tell you the date that Spider Man came out in theaters (May 3rd, 2002), the date my friend Aaron saw Green Day at the Home Depot Center (October 8, 2005), and the day my friend hung out with his other friend for the first time (February 15, 2010). There are literally thousands and thousands of other dates and odd memories I have stored in my brain.
On the other hand, at times it seems as though my short term memory is close to non-existent. I can set down my keys for 30 seconds, turn around to look at a clock, and then not be able to find them for nearly half an hour. I once spent 10 minutes looking for a pair of pants that I was already wearing (I also remember the date it happened, but I’ve already gotten that point across.) I’ve decided that having a great short-term memory would be much more practical. I wouldn’t be late to things, I wouldn’t be so forgetful when it comes to packing, and I’d probably remember where I put my sunglasses.
But at least I can tell you during what month in 1999 McDonalds was carrying Inspector Gadget Happy Meal toys… (August)
